Right now at OPEN, it’s a very exciting time for us all! Despite having a very strange 2020 we’re expanding our portfolio and subsequently our team! This is the first in our new spotlight series, to help you get to know our new team members better. First off is our Account Director, Meg Ledger.
How did it feel to start a brand-new job in the middle of a national lockdown?
There are so many mixed emotions when starting a new job at the best of times, so starting in the middle of a global pandemic was definitely an experience I’ll always remember. The little things that we took for granted such face-to-face meetings over a coffee or having your work colleagues next to you to bounce ideas off of and ask questions, now seems like such a luxury. I was extremely lucky that my new team made me feel so welcome, albeit digitally – the onboarding process was very smooth. I actually found that being at home allowed me to better process all of this new information as I had more thinking time and opportunity to ask questions.
What made you want to work at OPEN Media?
The world of sales and working for a media owner had always interested me, having thoroughly enjoyed working for a fantastic specialist for nearly 7 years. OPEN Media in particular stood out to me for two reasons.
The culture of the business – OPEN Media are like a family, which I now very much feel a part of. The company is keen to invest in their staff and grow individual’s potential. Secondly, the business has exciting growth plans which are carefully thought out and the quality of the inventory speaks for itself.
What is your favourite thing about working in OOH?
Firstly, the history behind the medium – OOH advertising is one of the oldest and most well-established forms of advertising in the world. Yet it continues to grow and develop, offering new and exciting ways to target audiences. The creative opportunities the medium has to offer are endless! And secondly, the people in the industry are one of my favourite things about working in OOH.
What is your favourite ever OOH campaign?
I don’t think I could say a favourite ever OOH campaign as there have been so many amazing ones! One of my absolute favourites is McDonalds, when they transformed the IMAX into a giant Big Mac to celebrate the burgers 50th Anniversary. Such a simple yet genius idea – who doesn’t love a giant Big Mac?!
How have you kept sane over the past year of madness?
It’s crazy when I look back and think how much happened in 2020 – definitely a year no one will be forgetting any time soon. I go for walks most mornings which really helps clear my head and gets me ready for the day. Family, friends and colleagues have also been amazing and kept me sane, it’s important to talk and communicate. I’ve definitely learnt to appreciate the little things; they go a long way!
